All her life, borders have not been able to confine the Portuguese artist Bela Silva. In her art, her love for history and architecture even blur the boundaries of time. And with Carnet de voyages, her ‘worldly’ collection of jugs, bowls and dishes for Serax, she proves that the term ‘functionality’ does not impose any restrictions on her either.
Bela Silva: “Carnet de voyages is a journey through time, past the hang- ing gardens of Babylon, over land and sea, down to the old Portuguese azulejos tiles. With an open ticket for the final destination in the present, whether that is the family table set to share a convivial meal, or a place of honour on the window-sill to steal the show.”
